yes the GI does have a two piece barrel.  just in front of the chamber is where they are joined together.  you won't have any problems with it being a two piece.  head over to the 1911forum and you can read all you want on the two piece barrel.

Thanks for the info,  BUT! Why would they use a two piece barrel? It would have to be more expensive to produce :?  --Willy

Some of the custom gunsmiths who build guns for top accuracy will not work on a Springfield barrel, and require that it be replaced.

I put many thousands of rounds through my Springfield barrel. Couldn't wear it out.

Same as the Browning Hi-Power. The barrel tube is machined out of bar stock, and the chamber section is a forging which is brazed to it. I'm not sure what the advantages are, but it's not unheard-of that these barrels can come apart. Rare, but possible.

It's a manufacturing short cut. Easier to machine the chamber and barrel in two pieces and furnace braze them together in batch furnaces. Cuts down of manufacturing costs=higher profits. The fixtures they use are pretty accurate in aligning the parts---------------but-------I suppose every now and then there's a problem. Wouldn't keep me from buying a Springer if the price was REALLY right!!! Good aftermarket barrels are available for under $200.
