Problems ordering online at the Midway website?
« on: June 09, 2004, 08:42:43 AM »
Over the past few months I have been having a problem ordering from the MidwayUSA website.  What happens is that I can brouse their site just fine until I sign in, then everything crawls to a halt and can't complete placing an order.  So have been having to load up the shopping cart then telephone them to place the order.

I have reported this to their website management folks and they haven't found the problem.  I am wondering if it is my local machine and I suspect there is a problem with the cookie that is being placed on my machine.

What I am interested in knowing is anyone else having a similar problem.

Thanks,

Never had any problems with ordering from Midway online. I started orderingstuff from them 1 1/2 years ago online and have 18 orders filled no prob. Maybe your machine.......however the last order I placed with them was in March. You may want to put together an order and go thru it with their customer service people as you are doing it so you can explain what happens when you try............the CSRs at Midway have been excellent in the past to work with (one of the reasons I use them).

Yea it worked well for me for quite a while, have been doing the online orders successfully since the online ordering came up.  But then a few months ago I started to have problems.

I had their customer service place an online order using my account and it worked for them, but they don't have the cookie from prior activity on that machine they did it from.  I can try it again later using a different machine and I suspect it will work, but just wondering what went wrong and if anyone else has experienced this.

thomas have you checked your computer for "spyware"? This stuff can really foul up a machine. I run  Norton anti virus and some times a "bug still gets thru.

Had the same problem several times.  I had to lower my cookies; had them way too high.  Have not had any problems since.  :-D

Yes, I run the latest updates of Spybot Search & Destroy and feel reasonably confident it's clean.  I think the cookies are are cause and I suspect there is a conflict there and dumping those cookies will probably fix the symptoms, but if the cookie combination reappears that would mean there is something wrong with the code on their website that conflicts with the cookies they send out.

I placed two orders from Midway in the past month. No problems.

Like others here, I suspect the problem is with your pc.

Ricky,

I am waiting to hear back fromt he Midway web development team before I dump their cookies, hoping they are looking for a problem in how they wrote them.  The only online outfit I am have problems ordering from is Midway, everywhere else it's working fine.  It's not a question of visiting sites, but one that when I switch over to the Midway secure server the problems appear.

I am using an outfit called Hawk Communications, $10 dialup, and it's very generic.  I have a little app that cleans up before and after boot and the only thing it's not touching are the cookies which I have excluded.

I had a similar problem with them about a week ago. Wrote their customer support staff what happened etc. I got back what I considered a condesending reply as if I had never ordered from them online before.

Tried it the next day no problems.

Note to Midway: when I tell you I can't order something you are losing money. Others can't order. Check and see how much money I've spent online with you. Yes, I HAVE placed an order or two online. The problem MAY just be on YOUR end.

why do you not want to clean the cookies?  They do take up a lot of space if they are not cleaned out from time to time.

I personaly clean my computer at least once a week.

Ricky,

The cookies store login information and other information that you don't want to have to enter everytime you visit a site that you had previously signed in at.

I did not want to delete the Midway cookie as I wanted to have it there to see if they can fix the problem on their end needed to see what it had in it.  They are pretty small files and don't take up much space on todays hard drives.

I have developed and maintained large government websites and the thing that is important to remember, as Jack properly points out, it is the responsibility of the website development team to maintain compatability for all of the users they want to frequent their enterprise.  It is not the responsibility of the customer to adjust their local machines to accomodate the website for poorly written code or design.

It's an issue of how they code their website to use the cookie that the customer returns.  Now Midway has done a pretty fair job overall on their online commerce.  Bugs will appear as you fix something and then later find out that it had an unintended consequence in something else.  It is how well they respond to those bugs and customer issues that will determine their ultimate success.

Tom, I've ordered from Midway's website fairly frequently and had no problems.

One question regarding cookies though.  I have to log on to Midway every time to get into my account regardless if I've cleaned out my cookies or not.  Other websites, like this one for example, will keep me logged in when I come back if I don't clean out my cookies, but not Midway.  Do you not have to log in everytime you visit the Midway site?

Yes at the Midway site I still have to put in the customer name and password during the sign in as that is not stored in the cookie, however the cookie has the shopping cart information.

About the time this problem started the staff at Midway told me they were having a problem with the shopping cart function and that I should clear the shopping cart, then return to the site, sign in and add numbers to the cart and proceed to checkout.  This worked and successfully placed orders.  Then as time went on that workaround stopped helping and other symptoms began when going through the process of placing an order.  I am having no problems until I go over to their secure server, then it chokes.

Try Midsouth Shooter's Supply. You'll find prices lower there about 99% of the time unless you have an FFL. Midway has some pretty decent prices IF you have an FFL, otherwise most other suppliers will beat their price. I buy from them now ONLY if I can't find it anywhere else.
