12 pound signal cannon video...
« on: February 11, 2003, 01:40:35 PM »
Here's a video I shot yesterday while at The Halifax Citadel in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Every day at noon for the last 159 years, the Citadel fires a 12 lb. smooth bore cannon at 12:00 PM sharp. In the 1800's the gun was fired at both noon and at 9:00 PM.

The noon firing was to announce the dinner hour for merchants and citizens of Halifax. The 9:00 PM gun was a signal for soldiers at the Citadel garrison to return to quarters within 30 mins. before lock down.

Hope you enjoy. If you have any problem getting the video, let me know and I'll just e-mail it to you. It's not a big file, only 760K.
