« on: June 13, 2004, 12:40:10 PM »
I'm getting into casting, what's your thoughts on the Lyman Casting Kit?
The kit has a Mini-Mag 8 pound furnace,4500 Lube Sizer, lead dipper, ingot mould and Lyman's Cast Handbook $120.00 Mid-South Shooting Supply
                     Thanks Hippie

I liked the kit so well that I got one, I still like it, used it today, plan on using it again tonight.  Dipper casting is slow, but don't believe that you can't get good production, I cast 500 in a couple of hours, a couple of hours tonight and I'll have enough bullets for another 1000 rounds.  I've had the kit for about 4 month's and it has already paid for itself several times.

Got roughly the same kit, less the sizer, back in '63.

Consider buying second hand.  Look through ebay.

LOOK in the local papers for someone who's passed on and you can buy the whole shootin' match.

Yardsales are great opportunities.

Take your time, you can get by for at least half the money.

while it is true that if you arent in a hurry you can piece things together eventually; if you are new and dont know what to start with, get the kit.  the lead dipper is a good design.  the sizer- while those in the know say it isnt the best; it is light years ahead of how i used to do it.  the furnace works well too.  all in all a good deal in my book.  like butler, mine has  paid for itself several times and i bought it about 4 months back, also.   :agree:
