Canadian Nationals VS. US Nationals
« on: June 08, 2004, 10:59:23 AM »
All,

Recently I have been hearing some different conversations about what Nationals is more enjoyable to attended. It seems like most of the local competitors feel that the Canadian Nationals are a lot more enjoyable and more laid back.

While I have only ever attended the US Nationals, I was wondering what others thought of this.  How do they compare? Which one would you rather go to?

I would have to say, it depends on where the US nationals are being held.  I've been to the Canadian Nationals twice, once in Kamloops and once in Cranbrook, and both times were fantastic.  Besides all the friendly people and the nice atmosphere, the matches themselves are run very efficiently and safely.  Both Canadian Nationals I've attended compared favorably to the US Nationals I attended in Raton two years ago.  (Other US Nationals I've attended in Pennsylvania and Arizona also compared favorably to Raton.)  I had to choose between Canada and Raton this year. I opted for Canada.

I'll be attending the HP Canadian nationals for the first time this year. Never been to the US nationals yet, but the exchange rate, distance and border are all issues. Next time they're in Washington or Montana I'll be planning to go...

I'm looking forward to the Cdn. Nationals this month. I thought last year's was great, especially since that venue (Cranbrook) had no prep. time. (It being an emergency alternative to the burned out Kamloops venue.)

This year, having time to plan, I bet those enthusiastic Bull River shooters put on a fine show.

ps. If anyone happened to have an extra 22-24" lilja drop-in for a finnfire hunter-class they'd be bringing I'd be interested.

I think the Canadian shoot is a little more relaxed and the people are a little more friendly.  The range is a lot nicer than Raton but smaller.  I am going to both and will have a good time both places.

You guys need to check out the southern nationals in Winnsborrow La.
Just held two weeks ago, They had about 175 shooters , 300+ guns shot,
about $40,000 in prizes and awards given. Plenty of good food.
Held in June.

I was at Winnsboro, and it was indeed all you say.  David Mclemore does a really outstanding job.  It was a fine example of how a large match with lots of entries and relays can still be run efficiently and safely.  And all those door prizes sure are nice for those of us who can't shoot well enough to win anything...
