Hey guys I picked up my Ultra Varmit this afternoon. I got the gun from the dealer in less than 5 working days.

My first impressions were good. The cinamon stock and forend is nice and seems to fit real well on my initial inspection. It fit me real nice and the gun balanced well for me without the scope. I liked the checkering in the stock and forearm, I knew it was there when I ordered it but it was kinda a surprize when I realized how deep it was It seems to lock up real well and felt nice and tight.

I also picked up some stuff to clean it with and a new bore brush. Im going to clean it up real well when I get home and start planning the scope mounting process. Im not sure about the trigger pull yet. It felt pretty good when I tried it at the shop a few times. After I play with it awhile I will make a decision to shot it as or go ahead and send it off for a trigger job.

You might want to get some carb cleaner and give it a really good cleaning. They stuff they use to pack 'em in is pretty tough.

Will you be handloading for your new toy, or using factory stuff?

iisabigone!!~!~!~!~!!!!, before you use carb cleaner on the receiver remove the wood!!! The carb cleaner will strip the finish right off the wood and ruin your stock!!! BE CAREFUL WITH THAT STUFF NEAR THE WOOD!!!....<><....

Hey guys I just finished cleaning the ultra. I scrubed the bore with ultra job gun cleaner and a brush and then patched it until they came out clean. Then I scrubed again with hopps solvent and patched it until it came clean again. I took a lot of time cleaning out the chamber area well. I then wiped the complete gun down with the ultra job and wiped it clean.

I then took off the scope mount and wiped them and the oposing surfaces clean. I cleaned out all the screw holes and screws with acetone. I then applied lock tight to all the screws and remounted the bases, making sure to tighten up the set screws on the scope mount.

I then adjusted the millet angle lock rings to the correct width and mounted the Leopold being careful to adjusted for proper eye relief. The high Millet angle locks gave me plenty of clearance with the VXIII 3.5X10X50. I didnt feel like I needed the hammer extension but I went ahead and mounted it anyhow. It makes it easier to cock and Im glad I went ahead and mounted it after everything was together.

I then wiped it all down and applied a thin coat of rem oil.

The trigger feels pretty crisp, I would estimate around 3 lbs. I could use a little less but Im going to shoot it where it is for the time being.

I got the Winchester vaule pack to break in the barrel and Im looking forward to putting it on paper.

My rifle doesn't like the value pak stuff but one of my son's 223's gives consistant 3/4" groups with it.

Keep an eye on group changes from a dirty vs. a clean barrel. My sons rifle will throw the first two "clean barrel" shots about 4" off, then settles nicely into the zero point.

Mine doesn't seem to care yet.

Handirifle what ammo does your gun like the best. Im in the market for accurate ammo for various uses. Do you handload or shoot factory ammo?

Without not a lot of rounds through it, it still likes handloads using Hornady 40gr V-max bullets.

My .223 UV does real well with the white box 45JHP rounds. I buy out the local wally worlds every couple months at about $12 per 40 rounds, tax included.

I found a local reloader that makes a 55FMJ round that's sold through a couple gun shops in town. This stuff was good for barrel break in, and OK for just punching paper at the range, learning how to shoot the gun. One of my buddies that shoots a mini14 runs this stuff, it's less than 20 cents a round, if I remember correctly. This may be a good option for you if someone in your area has started a similar business.

At these prices, it's tough to justify buying a reloading set up.
