Any one have any sight suggestions for a Marlin 336 in 35 rem? It is to be a "brush" gun so I am looking for fast and light. I am leaning towards either a Red Dot mounted scout style or a peep sight. Any thoughts?

I myself would put a Nikon Monarch or Pro Staff(depending on $$$) 2x-7x 32mm on top of the receiver setting in medium quick detach rings, that way the bell of the scope will barely clear the rear sight so you will still have open sights if needed...I have the same set up on a 336 and have never had a problem with weight or target acquisition...Just my opinion.

I have thought about detachable mounts on the red dot but from what I hear they are quicker to aim with than open sights. All my other deer rifles are scoped I want something different on this one ( thats why I went 35 over 30-30)

I would look into a low end variable or fixed power. I have a VX-III 1.5-5x20 leupold on my 45/70 encore and its a lot faster to find your target in a low powered scope than open sights, especially if your in heavy brush. All those branches can really get confusing when using a peep sight. You could also go with a pistol scope in a scout mount.
Scopes like the leupold 2.5x20 compact or VX-II 1-4x20, or burris Fullfield II 2.5x20 or 1.75-5x20. I find it a lot faster to find an animal in a low powered scope than open sights, and a lot easier to hit moving targets too.

I put a Weaver V-3 on my Marlin and love it. At 1x it's as fast as a red dot and no batteries. My next choice would be a Williams Foolproof and I use them on my Winchester and Marlin '94s.

Have tried a couple Red Dot sights in scout mounts on rifles. I found them to be as fast as aperture rear/post front sights for close fast shooting. They are a tudge faster in dim light situations though. My favorite is the EOTech M552 with a circle and one MOA dot. It takes two AA batteries and battery life is extremely good. It is also hell for stout and well protected. Kind of spendy but I consider it as top of the line.

I currently have it mounted on a C.R.T.C. BC-CAM mount on my issue M16A2. It sits forward of the handle and with the elevation adjustment of the mount I have it zeroed so the dot is coincidental with the tip of the front post. I use a normal sight picture with the short range (large aperture) rear sight and it is really quick and accurate. If I forget to turn it on or the batteries die, no problem, as the sights are still instantly "there". I can also use it just looking over the top of the rear sight - just put the dot on target and pull the trigger. I ran a qualification for my unit a month or so ago and after scoring 40 out of 40 three times in a row I have great confidence in it. It is also NVG compatable, not necessary for hunting but will be of great use to me in a couple months.

Point is; I have used a multitude of sights/scopes on m16/M4s over the last 39 years and find the EOTech set up to be the quickest for QCB and with the 1 MOA dot it is very accurate to 500 hards on mil type targets. When I return the EOTech will definately go on one of my "scout" rifles" for hunting. I have a nice M91 Mauser I rebarreled to .35 Rem...hmmmm.....
