What kinds of side matches does your local club have?  I've been packing my 38 American Arms to shoots for two years and have only gotten to use it three times, and one of those times I used it in the long range rifle just to get to shoot the dang thing!   :-D   Kept six rounds within a yard of the target at 100 yds!!   :-D  :-D  :-D

My local club has pocket pistol matches and long range matches fer buff guns 'n big bore lever guns. Current 200 yards is all we can get, but we are building a new range and it looks like we may be able to increase that to over 300 yards.

I've only been to one shoot that had a team match. It was organized kind of like a relay race. First shooter engaged targets at one stage and upon completing the course of fire ran to tag the next shooter at the next stage, who shot his stage and then ran to tag the next shooter at yet another stage.....etc. ( did great at this because even though I'm a excessively "round" individual these day, I can still run like the wind! :) )

I've also read that some clubs have team matches that involve "Cutting the post" with thier guns. Apparently these are shot "en mass" with the entire team opening fire on a fence post or 4x4 in an attempt to cut it in half as fast as possible.

Our shoots have 200yd long range. A few of us use 30/30 but most use 45-70.  We have single shot and lever seperate. We get 2 sighters and 5 on the clock. The timer is used to break ties.

Butler Ford45,
Team matches are a real hoot! Usually, teams of six or more shooters line up at the line and all shoot at once at a variety of targets. The team with the shortest time to knock down all the targets or cut the post in half wins. Some interesting targets for team shoots are: golfballs suspended on strings, small clay birds on strings, wood posts, charcoal briquets, marshmellows, mustard or ketchup packets, pop cans (full), popsicle sticks, and any other devious things you can think of in addition to standard knock downs. Here's a team match for you to look at:

I wish a club near here shot long range. Do many places offer LR over 200 yeards? I think a Sharps at 500 yards would be a lot of fun. The longest shot I can practice on my place is 200.

I shoot side matches with two clubs I shoot with.
At acsa they only have about 275 for distance and shoot these wepons.
Long range Lever Rifle. Long range Pistol Caliber Lever Rifle, Long Range Single Shot, and Buffalo long range single shot, and Pistol long range(pistol is only about 75 yards.

At Cowtown we had (yes it got taken away by the paintballers)426 yard for single shot and trapdoor longrange and about 200 yards for lever rifle caliber and pistol caliber rifles.
What a fun side match that was.
I guess we are supposed to accept change but darn it the older I get the harder it is to just say ok we used to do that!!!!

Never shot in a pocket pistol side match.I have shot in several team matches . YE HAAAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!!! Them is FUN !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had our whole posse at WR last year shooting .
WOW wish there were more of these type of sidematches.

Could you tell I was getting long winded. It is early in the morning here.

:D Howdy ,
Around these parts we usually have 22 pistol and rifle on one stage before the main match and maybe on another stage we will have pocket pistol and / or derringer . Sometimes they will have a big GONG ( 3 feet in diameter ) set up for speed pistol and /or rifle or shotgun . The pocket pistol is usually a load five at the loading table , move to the line , shoot and then load five on the clock and shoot . These are shot at the regular pistol targets . Derringer is a very close paper target and shoot two and load two on the clock and shoot . We also have LR pistol out to 50 - 60 yards shooting at fixed clay birds . :(

Hey, Bulter, if I get a 45-70 maybe you can just give me a GPS reading and I can try it from here. Wonder how much holdover I need? Maybe I need a 50-120 for that shot.
