quickdtoo, I believe you will be well served by a Handi in 45-70. Most everyone reports groups of 2" or less at 100 yards with factory ammo and handloads as well. The 45-70 doesn't suffer from poor performance in factory ammo as it once did. Everything you can get from names like Winchester, Remington, Federal and such will be designed around level 1 pressures, 300 grin bulets at 1800 fps or so, 400 grain bullets at 1350 fps or so. But with the availability of loads from Garrett and Buffalo Bore and at least one other soon to be introduced maker, Level two laods are becoming more commonly available. these would be loads driving 400 grain bullets to velocities of 1800 fps or so and 350 grian bullets at nearly 2000. For whitetails and hogs, level 1 loads will serve most any 45-70 owner well. One might want to step up if elk or moose were on the menu, but there is a lot of history that says not so.
