PMC .45-70 ammo

Anybody here ever use this brand of factory ammo?  The specs. say a 350 gr. flatnose, at 2025 fps. from the muzzle.  Found a good buy on it, and am thinking about trying it in my guide gun.

Yes, and it's outstanding ammo.  It's a definite sleeper among 45-70 fans.  It's all that I shoot through my guide gun.  It has devestating effects on deer and large wild hogs.  I have no reservations about puching through the tough shoulder armor on big boars.  Don't hesitate on passing on your source for it, as I am always looking to pick up extra boxes of it.  I absolutely love this stuff.

Mad dog,  I have not used the 45/70 PMC ammo, but have used PMC brand ammo in several other calibers with satifaction. Maby not much help but my experience.  Byron

The PMC 45-70 +P is great.  Accurate, and hard hitting.  And cheaper than Rem or Win that have much less power.  Found mine at Sportsmansguide.com, $18.00 box.  If you haven't tried a hotter load in your 45-70, be ready.  I find the PMC and CorBon manageable, but you WILL notice the difference in recoil

I agree with Vahunter.  It's cheaper, more accurate, but at the expense of a substantial increase in recoil.  I purchased my last batch through Sportsmans Guide as well, but have seen it for sale at Cheaper than Dirt.  Any other cheap sources anyone can think of?

I can't say any thing that has not been said. I have used the rifle ammo. and pistol ammo and can't say any thing but good about PMC. I do my own reloading but, Sometimes i get behind and when i do i look for some PMC. Stay safe...........Joe....................................................................

Ordered 2 boxes, on Monday, from cheaper than dirt.  Gonna give em a try.  If I like them, I'll probably pick up several boxes to keep on hand.

Son picked up a box of .405 gr . , lead , box states 1250 FPS . Haven't fired any yet but he says the recoil is more than Remington factory FN . (Believe that these were lighter loads for older arms .)

So how did this PMC +P ammo shoot?  How'd it kick?

I just use factory ammo, and if it does decently, I'll pick up a couple of boxes for mine this weekend.

This stuff shoots better than anything else out there that I have tried.  My Leupold scoped Guide Gun gets slightly over an inch at 100 yards (3-shot group).  I cannot raise my expectations above that, even for most of my bolt guns.  I will tell you that your getting a great Hornady bullet, and exceptional accuracy, but at the expense of some serious recoil.  My previous Guide Gun, an early ported model was pretty stout with this stuff.  My current unported Guide Gun is a beast, when shooting off of the bench.  I can only say that the recoil is a lot like what you would get from a 3-inch magnum slug in a 12 guage.  I'm not quite sure how PMC is able to harness all of this power, and still stay within SAAMI specs, but they have created an outstanding load.  I just cannot, for the life of me, understand why people aren't buying this stuff in droves.  Stay safe and good shooting!

You can push a 400gr bullet to those velocities and stay within the pressure limits for certain rifles.  The key is to know what you're loading for.  Trapdoors have lower levels than marlins and they have lower levels that Ruger # 1's.

Even at #1 levels it's in the 40,000psi range.
