Someone told me today that the new Nikon Buckmasters have 92% light transmission (the older versions used to have 88%). This is a pretty good improvement. Can anyone either confirm or deny?

The "new" model scopes offer 92% light transmission, which is the 4-12x50 & 6-18x40. All other buckmasters still offer 88%. The was a thread about a week about were we talked about the difference. You may want to go back a check it out. It has all the information.

I wonder why Nikon hasn't made all of their other Buckmaster models with 92% light transmission. Maybe they will down the line?

As you know, I'm looking to get a new scope for a .17HMR (which I haven't bought yet), and think that the 6x-18x is a little high, even for target shooting. Too bad Nikon doesn't have a Buckmaster (with 92% light transmission) that comes in Gloss finish, has an AO with focusing as close as 50 yards (or less), has a power range of 4x-12x (or so), weighs no more than 15 oz, and is no longer than 12.5" and comes with a ballistic-plex reticle, and has an objective of 40mm, all at a price of under $300.

Does such an animal even exist? :grin:

The closest scope I found would be the Burris FFII 4.5-14x42. Only comes in matte finish weighs 18oz and is 13" long but has Bal plex, 95% light transmission and priced at $299 with free shipping. I couldn't find the close range of the AO. I think that's as good as it gets. Good luck in your quest for the perfect scope.... Tim

The Nikon Buckmaster 4-12x50 complies with almost all of those demands. Everything excpect the 40 mm and the BP Reticle.......you can get it at www.scopesnmore.com for $282
