223 Fox Ridge Barrel
« on: June 09, 2004, 07:11:03 AM »
Ed Kirkpatrick just told me my 24" heavy ss .223 barrel was shipped yesterday. I just ordered a Leupold VX-II 3x9x40 with the wide duplex to put on it & should be shooting by Monday. If anyone has a set up like this what bullet does yours like & what load ? I hear so much bad about Fox Ridge I'm a little scared  that I made a poor choice. Whats your thought' s fellows ? I want to shoot groundhogs out to say 200yds. & punch paper.

Our Encore barrel is a 26" .223 heavy barrel that was purchased as part of a finished rifle. I had to send it back because it needed to be recrowned. The groups were about 3" at 100 yards.  It now shoots into 3/4".  The scope we are using is a Leupold 3-9x40 on a Weaver mount and Burris Zee rings. I am quite happy with this.  The load I am using is based on the 40 grain Nosler BT Varmint bullet. See the reloading forum for details. Search for "boy".  That should get you to a topic called something line 223 load for a boy.

I have a 21" .223 barrel, mounted with a 3x9 Sightron scope.  I've gotten good results with 45 Sierra spitzers and H-4198.
