Update for Ms. Lorelei Longshot

Howdy Ms. Lorelei (and all ya other pards)

As you was wondering how things are going with my entry into the great sport of CAS, I am happy to report that my darling wife has shown increased signs of support.  Not that she is fully supportive but she is much more accepting of my involvement than previously and has even suggested that we might forego some other optional expenditures to free up funds for the purchase of some firearms.

I guess the fact that I have built a vibratory cleaner and purchased reloading equipment has convinced her that I am serious about this sport.  I have to admit that I have put far more thought into this than I have anything else I ever contemplated doing - my wife thinks I am obsessed and perhaps I am.  I have spend many many hours researching information on the web and really appreciate this forum.

I am still much too far away from actually participating in a match for my liking, but I have ordered a wheelgun (an Uberti 1875 Remington) which is scheduled to arrive in September.  Just a bit of a problem with availability of my preferred revolver.  Alas, lots of Colt clones available locally but no Remingtons.  You have to appreciate that the availablity in Canada is not quite as it is in the States.  Regardless, my plan is to be fully ready by next spring to participate in the local events offered by the Alberta Frontier Shooters  http://www.compusmart.ab.ca/afs/index.htm.

As I intend to shoot frontier cartridge, I was most fortunate to get in on the purchase of the Snakebite mold.  That should be arriving soon too.  Many thanks to Ruff Justice and Dick Dastardly for accomodating me at the last minute.

My current plan is to cast some bullets, loads some rounds and practice at a local range over the winter.  As well I will manufacture my leather goods (for which I need the pistol for the holster patterns) and build a gun cart.  I will order the second revolver in January such that it is available prior to the first match.

One of the local gun shops has a Marlin 1894C (18.5" carbine) in stock for a good price.  I am just a bit hesitant to purchase it as it only has a 9 shot capacity although I understand that it can be easily modified to accept 10 rounds.

And lastly, given some rather bizarre rules with respect to importation of certain goods into Canada from the States (I can not mail order brass cartridges!), I have found a gun shop (only a 2 hour drive away) that has a relationship with Midway USA who will bring in some brass hulls for my 12 ga. hammer SXS.

So all in all things are looking up.

I'm proud of ya pard! Yer doin good! You have my sympothy concerning getting the stuff "in country"! Ain't Gubbermints a hassle!?!?!

My wife is no longer interested in shooting, but she gets involved by being my photographer! This lets her have a reason to come to matches, dress up, and gab with the other gals. Ya might/could tyry that tactic wif yer best half!

Good to hear that you have a solid plan of action and are progressing.  Glad your wife seems to be coming around a little.  At least she's not dead set against your involvement.

Have you visited any shoots in your area yet?  I'm sure the pards there will be glad to loan you some weapons so you can at least participate in a shoot.  (Of course you're already hooked on the sport, but it could give you a chance to play for a day.)

Trying out lots of weapons is a good way to find out exactly what you want before you purchase.  Lots of people get a set of weapons and then end up changing weapons after they shoot awhile because they didn't get a chance to try them out first.

Good luck and keep us posted.
