ENCORE PARTS

LOOKING FOR RECIEVER PARTS ON MY ENCORE.DO YOU HAVE TO GET PARTS LIKE FIRING PIN OR SPRINGS FROM TC ONLY OR IS THERE ANOTHER SOURCE.LOOKED ALL OVER INTERNET SIGHTS.APPRECIATE ANY HELP

I had to replace my firing pin and firing pin spring in my Encore.  I called T/C and they sent me the parts no charge.

Thanks gentleman for your reply.Had called TC originally talking about
pin binding not a complete fault due to weather [excessive rain]during
this past hunting season.They gave me prices only.So I thought I would check around first.

WHEN YOU CONTACTED T/C ABOUT THE FIRING PIN AND SPRING WHAT DID YOU TELL THEM OR DID THEY ASK WHY THE ENCORE MALFUNCTIONED?  i HAVE A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT DON'T KNOW WHAT TO TELL THEM!! aNY HELP IS GREATLY APPRECIATED

What is it with these Encore firing pins? Mine started
cratering primers. Upon close inspection of the end of
the firing pin, it appeared "dimpled". Never dry fired or
abused it.

That's basically what I told Thompson, and they promptly
sent me a firing pin and spring, with no theory or
explanation of what had happened. But no charge.

How many here have had to have their Encore firing pins
replaced for similar reasons?

Don't dry fire the Encore!

It will weaken the firing pin RETAINING spring which won't return the firing pin flush with the rear of the frame - this in turn will cause the firing pin the hang the primer as you open the action after firing a roudn resulting in a bent or even broken firing pin.  As far as the dimpled firing pin - who knows, maybe you  previously pierced a primer and were unaware.  Once you pierce a primer you'll probably etch the end of the firing pin which will in turn cause you to pierce even more primers starting a vicious cycle.  T/C asked no questions when I requested my replacement firing pin and retaining spring.  Mike Bellms site will offer his opinion as well

Nope - one shot produced a normal dent -- next shot
was cratered -- no pierced primer.  I wonder how hard
it is on the firing pin to hit the primer, cartridge moved
.008" forward, powder ignites, bullet goes forward, and
case slams back into receiver. Has the retaining spring
had time to pull the firing pin back prior to getting slammed
by the end of the case/primer? (Case in point, an over-
length chamber in a factory barrel.)

I've seen only around a dozen firing pin springs out of
Winchesters, Remingtons, and Rugers, only one having
a hammer. Out of those, the wire used to make the
firing pin spring in the Encore is a lot less diameter than
any of the others I've seen. Don't know if I'll ever find it
in the same size, but I'm looking for something a LOT
heftier!

T/C warns against dry firing, stating it will weaken the
spring, but mine was NEVER dry fired. Personally, I believe
the spring is pretty darned weak to begin with.

It's been awhile since I looked at the one in my Encore, but the firing pin spring in my Omega looks like they cut it off a cheap ball point's spring.  VERY flimsy looking.
