I have a .243 handi on its way to me and I will be trying out several barnds of ammo but I want to know if there are any specific bullet weights or factory ammo that I should definately try or stay away from while finding the best round for my new gun. Thanks, Andrew

I've had pretty good luck with bullets in the 80-95 gr. range. Anything over that and the results are not as good. But I don't reload for the .243 so maybe my results are not typical.

My 243 handi likes Federal Premium 70 gr NBT and 85 gr sierras, it does pretty good with 100 gr Rem corelokt, but the best it has shot to date with factory ammo was with cheap PMP 100 gr softpoints. I shot about 16 rounds that averaged 0.5" at 100 yards. I have not purchased any more of this ammo to try and repeate those groups but I will once I can get some range time in again. It may have been a fluke but if you find some it might be worth trying. I bought mine from Cabela's for $9 a box but you can get it online for about $7.

Your one of the few that I've heard had good luck with 100 gr. bullets in the .243. It sure follows suit though, these inexpensive(I didn't say cheap) rifles seem to like inexpensive ammo.

My 243 ultra hates the 100 grain stuff, but loves Win 80 grain. You can cover the pattern with a dime at 100 yards.

My son has always had great accuracy and success with the Remington Cor-Lokt in an 80 grain. I tend to agree with the comment above ...did not do well with a 100 grain bullet, and the deer he has dropped with the 80 gr. have dropped as well.....from 120, and 110 yards in heavy south Texas mesquite....great for an over the counter ammo....

I took my 343 out for the first time this afternoon with some 100 gr. winchester I and bought and some 70 gr I had loaded it shoot both excellent. In both groups I had holes almost touching or touching at 100yrd I was well pleased for the first time out. It don't take much to please me like getting to have a afternoon off from work. :-)
