Spring Turkey season 2004
« on: May 22, 2004, 10:35:34 AM »
Well, as of 12:00 noon the Masachusetts spring turkey season ended with dad and I having filled one tag. We are allowed to shoot two bearded turkeys in the spring or one in the fall of either sex.

Opening day was a bust due to the fact that there was a steady, drenching rain. Needless to say, no birds came in.

I am able to hunt almost everyday before work for about 3 hours. I hunted almost every day with some birds gobbling but the season didn't really come into full swing until a week later.

On May11th, I called in a nice 18.6 lb gobbler. Took him at 26 paces with a 3 1/2" 12 gauge NEF. Both dad and I were happy.

Hunted more days but no luck. Today was the last day and we spotted three jakes and one hen. No matter what we did, they totally ignored us and thus ends the season.

I can't complain. We have at least one bird while many went without. It was a fun and safe season.

That's good to hear you got at least one bird. I got ZIP  :( . Beautiful day too. I managed to call in a hen...but she didn't bring a boyfriend with her. So that's that. Now I'm prepping for fall turkey. Getting some new camo in that new Mossy Oak Obsession....*Here turkey turkey turkey   *
