Rugar 77 308 to 300 short mag

I have a 308 varmit, shoots well can it be rechambered to 300 short mag,
will i have any feeding problems?

Yes, your .308 Winchester can be rechambered to .300 short magnum, BUT:

1.  bolt face and extractor will have to be opened up to accept the larger rim.

2.  receiver rails will have to be opened up to give reliable feeding.  Feed ramp may have to be reshaped too.

These are standard gunsmithing operations, but no guarantee that the rifle will shoot as well or be as reliable as it is now in the original caliber.

Why not just sell/trade your rifle and get the caliber you want?

John T is most certainly correct and underspoken at that.  The cost of the conversion would be quite high.  You are basically altering the entire feed mechanism of the rifle and the experienced smiths needed to do this sort of thing don't work cheap.  Plus changing the extractor on a remington would mean going to a sako style.  Then after you're done, you've still got a used rifle..
