Grip/glove for heavy recoil?

I would like to ask anyones recommendations concerning what is the best grip for the Contender to handle heavy recoil. In addition, anyone care to recommend a brand of shooting glove for recoil?

I shot 18 round of some 405 grain hardcast slugs out of the 45-70 barrel and my hand was really hurting. I was using the factory Rhynite grip with the rubber insert. This is an older model of grip . It seems that the newer grips are all rubber coated.

This barrel is one of the first factory super 16's and has no muzzle brake. In all honesty, I do not want a brake as they are loud and I actually damaged my hearing about 10 years ago while hunting with a 30-06 pistol with a muzzle brake.

So. any suggestions would really be appreciated.

On my Contender I have the Competitor Pistol Grip. I shoot heavy loaded 444 Marlin rounds. I have shot 50 very heavy loaded rounds and only after about 40 rounds did I start feeling my palm getting a little sore. I use past shooting gloves as well. I have found the past shooting gloves work very well. I use them when I shoot my BFR in 500MAG and I have wood grips on it. But there is only so much we can do to tame that recoil.  :shock:  :)

I pulled out an old (new) pair of leather sailing gloves the other day and thought they would provide a good grip for shooting.  They are 3/4 finger so your tips are all exposed and available for the "feel" and for the trigger finger.

Think I got mine 7 years ago at West Marine and I bet they would work for your recoil issues while letting you have fingertip detail.

Just the standard ole Competitor Pistol Grip for me over the last 12 years.  I shoot the 45-70 with it and no glove.

Pachmeyer Decelerator Gripper...nothing else comes close.  I have a relatively small hand.  Folks with big mitts seem to prefer the Presentation model.  GOOD SHOOTIN',  Walt  :grin:

I use the Pachmayr foreend and decelerator grip. It makes a huge difference.  I also have used the Uncle Mikes shooting glove and it works as advertised.  Both are good products that work.

All I have are factory grips on my T/C's have a Houge on my  Rugers.I use a Past glove with the 454 and 45-70 if I am going to shoot a lot.I also have a pair or two of anti-vibration glove that help too.

I am going to display my ignorance. What is an anti-vibration glove? I may want to look into that.

I buy them here at work they look like a Past glove they are designed for vibration or impact protestion.Some have a thick padding some have a gel inside.Any industerial supply should have them they run from $15.00 - $ 25.00 a pair.They work and fit just as good as the Past glove I have.
