I'm excited! I just got a new RCBS 162gr. gas check mold. I was looking at it, and found that the ends would come together, but there was a gap in the middle. Other than that, it appears to be in very good shape.
I read through my Lyman reloading manual, and the RCBS Cast Bullet Handbook, and following the instructions, adjusted the alignment pins, then used a graphite pencil and eraser to remove burrs, then gently worked on the surface with 800 grit wet or dry paper. The gap is much reduced, and almost eliminated when I apply pressure to the mould handles.
My question is: will the slight gap affect casting at all? Will this "wear in" to a better fit, as I cast? I don't think it will cause fins on the bullet, but it may just be my inexperience speaking.
What do you guys think?
Thanks
