270 win and RL15
« on: July 07, 2004, 09:24:48 AM »
Has anyone used Alliants RL15 in 270 win with 130gr bullets? I have only used IMR4064 and am wondering how the RL15 would effect velocity and overall performance compared to the 4064.

Try Hodgdon 4831SC instead. I think you'll be happy with it.

270 Powder

H-4831 is a good powder to start with.  The 270 shoots great with several different powders.  My latest fast and easy load is just fill the case with H-1000 with 130 gr bullet.  Many will frown on this, but it is my most accurate load with two different rifles.  I've found the Speer Spit flat base to be the most accurate.  Lot's of luck.  (3.240 COL)

The main reasoning behind wanting to use the RL15 in my 270 is that I am wanting to switch to that powder in my 308, from what i see and read its supposed to be excellent and provides more velocity than the IMR4064 I currently use its supposedly excellent for 308 150gr loads. Also, I wonder if the RL15 powder is any cleaner than the IMR4064 powder? :?
