Kimber Eclipse Target
« on: April 11, 2006, 01:47:12 PM »
Hi Everyone-

Handled a Kimber Eclipse Target model today.  Seems very tight and from what I've read, a great shooter.  I didn't like the 3-dot sight system for a "target " gun. I prefer the adjustable "partridge' sights, or someting similar.  I intend to target shoot and possible carry occasionally.  Does anybody own one?  Am I nit-picking about the sights?  Any insight will be helpful in my decision to buy or not.  by the way, it was about $1,100.  Has anyone seen one in this price range?

Don't own one, but have shot a couple of them.  I have a couple Stainless Gold Matches, and I prefer the plain black adjustable Bomar type sites for target shooting.  The Target Eclipse besides having the dots, also has a slightly narrower front sight, or wider back sight which is slightly less conducive to target shooting, but better for action shooting like IDPA.  It's not a big difference, and its a good gun, but if target shooting is what you want to do, I'd go for the plain black sights.

Also, I wouldn't buy a new gun, their are plenty of used ones out there that are in near mint condition and will save you $200-$300.   Also, make sure you find one with an internal extractor rather than the newer external extractors.
