39A scope for sillouhette
« on: July 14, 2004, 12:51:52 PM »
I need your expert advice. I want to use my ol 39A to shoot sillohuettes. Since the targets range from 20 some meters out to about a 100 or so meters what would you advise regarding a scope? Although I've shot several scoped rifles before, I really know very little about them. Could you all provide a few suggestions on what kind of scope you might be looking for if it were you? Oh, yeah, I need suggestions regarding what kind of scope rings etc.... Thanks for any help you can offer. Wanting to be competitive. Thanks Skipper

You want something with target turrets and excellent "repeatability" because silhouete shooters are constantly cranking the elevation up and down. The old Weaver T-24 was a great one. I don't know about the new ones yet. Sightron is getting a lot of good press. I'd suggest an 8x24 variable with a dot. Whatever you do, spring for a decent, durable scope. Expect to spend around $400. If you like the sport you'll be shopping for a rifle soon and you don't want to have to upgrade the scope at the same time.

Check out www.shootingpaul.netfirms.com for a good silhouette site including a pretty thorough scope test of several brands done by Dan Theodore. Also, there is a good silhouette forum right here at Graybeard.
