108 or 123 Scenar for CPT?
« on: July 11, 2004, 10:11:24 PM »
G,day from Down Under

On the horns of a dilemma am I. Cant make up my mind whether to use 108 or 123 Lapua Scenars in my Sako 6.5 x 55 for CP & T's. Any known advantages for either?

kind regards

I've used the 108's for those targets in 6.5x55 and 260 Rem. They work fine.  Never tried the 123's. Perhaps the 108's will have a tad less recoil. If you can get the 144's they're great for rams.

I use 108s on all and 139 on rams - so far I have not lost any yet, never tried the 123s - the only advantage can be shooting them in the wind, they should drift less than 108s and as to the recoil - hm I dont know if you could see a difference everything ofcourse depends on your loads, lets say if both would be shot at 2600 fps --??-- I dont know if it would be a big difference - guess you just have to try it for yourself,
so I would be sticking to 108s unless wind is the factor..

at 2700 fps for both bullets,  the 123 has 6 or 7 " less drift than the 108 at the turkey line, with almost the same recoil...basically none. Wind is almost always a factor, and when it isn't it will be soon again. So in my mind why play with 3 different bullets instead of just 2. The 123 for C,P, and T. Then the 139 for Rams.
