Ammo questions
« on: September 23, 2004, 06:55:11 AM »
I shoot big matches with Eley Match EPS, a "fast" lot rated on the box at 1155 fps. I don't hear a sonic crack. I like it because it shoots to the same point of impact as some cheaper practice ammo I use much more often. Wolf and some good Eley Club impact two inches lower at 100 meters. I like the great accuracy and the peace of mind of knowing I've done all I can to eliminate bloopers which fall 6 inches low.
Here's the question. I need to re-stock for '05. Should I go to the trouble of trying to find some more fast stuff...it's a little hard to locate...or should I just grab some of the 1050 fps version, adjust the scope and have at? Should I expect much difference in wind drift? Are there any advantages or disadvantages to the extra 100 fps?

Since you like, your gun likes it, it allows you to practice with cheaper ammo since it shoots to the same point of impact and you have confidence in it why would you not go to the trouble to find more of it?

Not a bad question. I don't mind the search but I'm just not sure it's available. And before I spend the money, assuming I find some, I thought I'd give someone more knowledgeable than I a chance to say: "Whoa, you'll like the slow stuff a lot better..."

Try looking at the Zanders website.  They are a distributor of Eley ammo.  They list the lots and velocities they have in stock.  If you see the stuff you like you can have a retail place (like champions choice) get it for you.

Look under the Eley ammunition link of the first page.
