What is the difference between the two? I am looking to replace
a tasco P.O.S. I want a 2X7X32 or 4X fixed power. The price on the
VX1 and Rifleman is the same are their any differences or problems
I should know about. This scope is going on a marlin 30/30.
I was at first leaning toward a 4X for durability but the price is 20.00
cheaper for the variable. Opinions welcome.

I have been wondering about this myself since seeing their advertisement in the Cabelas catalog.
They are still made here in the USA and carry the same warranty. Looks like a good deal but you know the saying about when something looks too goood to be free it usually is. Anyone know?
About the use of a variable on a 30/30. Is it really needed? The 30/30 lever excells with a low power fixed scope for reliability. Something like a 2X-2.5X is ideal. More compact and less to go wrong. Quick to point too under the conditions in which the gun is normally used.Good luck. POW

Don't know if you would ever plan on getting the scope renovated or the reticle or windage/elevation dials or parrallax changed or not, but the 2004 Leupold catalog says "Leupold Custom Shop services are not available for Rifleman riflescopes". I would have to choose the VX-I just for this reason.

Hey guys, here is the basic difference between the VX-I and Rifleman.

VX-I: Multicoat 4 on external lenses and magnesium flouride on internal. 1/4 MOA Friction adjustment

Rifleman: Magnesium flouride on all lenses. 1/2 MOA Friction Adjustment.

The price is the same for the matte Rifleman and the gloss VX-I. Besides what TheOpticZone and Toobroke said there are a few more reticle choices with the VX-I.
