10/22 scope
« on: July 12, 2004, 10:34:11 PM »
I bought a Ruger 10/22 deluxe with a Weaver V22 (3-6 rimfire 7/8") scope. The scope was removed for shipping.
Should I remount this scope: using the tip-off bases it came with?
                                           with a Weaver base & 7/8-1 adapters?
Should I mount a 3-9x38 Bushnell Sportview & Weaver base I have?
Or should I look for another 1" scope 0f better quality?(recommendations?)

The Weaver V22 seams in good condition but I don't like tip-off mounts(having one pop off right after sighting in) and I'm not sure if the quality of an older 7/8 ring scope is as good as a newer 1" budget scope.

I've go an old weaver fix 4power that I picked up for about $35 used and it's just a clear as some of the mid priced scopes I have. A frend turned me on to them the old steal tub weavers are really nice if the glass is still clean.

Savorino,

Get a good 1" scope for that 10/22 and you will never be sorry.  I prefer a good brand 3-9X 32mm or 40MM adjustable objective bell.  Make sure you get one that will focus down to 10 yards and you will be a happy hunter/shooter.  This way you’ll be ready for shots from 30 feet to however far you want to stretch the barrel on that 10/22.  I got 5 10/22’s and all wear 4-16X 40mm(or there about) scopes.  Lawdog

Thanks for the posts!

Lawdog: that's a pretty big scope you use, do you hunt small game with that at all, or are you mostly into target shooting?
I have a 4-16x42 but am not sure about using it for this, if I put a bull barrel on it maybe, but I might want to hunt small game with it.

I only target shoot to check sight in and do load development.  I would say 90% of my shooting is hunting.  I didn’t figure that 4-16X is big, my 77/22 in .22WMR wears a 6-24X 44mm.  Small groups and tight lines to you.  Lawdog
