the forend will NOT fit a 10 .ga sized barrel. the butt-stock will not fit either. the 10 .ga frame is to wide for the standerd sized stock. i have th 920 20 .ga versian of this gun and i put a synthetic stock and forend on it 'cause it a 12 .ga frame. i had to chisel out the forend to fit the heavy 12 .ga size barrel then sand it to fit. just barrley any plastic to spare on the froen      . what i would do if i had a 980 is try to buy or trade for a 10 .ga camo(realtree for me  ) made buy h&r or call the factory and see if you could by one. i also like your idea of chambering it to 3 1/2 for the lightfields. they make ACCURATE    slugs. the recoil should not be bad from a 9+ lbs gun.
hopes this helps :P
later :D buckslayer

it shoot quite well actually the 3.5  i used it on meat hunt last week a guy i know has bison on his farm and i asked if i could thump one! he allowed me so. the 3.5 lightfields  dropped the 900 pound monster in its tracts, at 90 yds  about 2inch groups right now with the fixed 6 power scope
