I would like to buy an all metal magazine for my 7600. Will the 760 mags work and if so where can you find the older all metal ones? I know I need a mag for a .243/7-08/.308 as they differ from the 30-06 length mags.

They should work for you. I have several 760's and 7600's and a whole bunch of different clips. Some old, some new. I haven't noticed any problems with them. I can say for sure though, my 760 in 300 Savage has to have a clip marked 300 Savage or it won't work, despite what some people may say. A good place to look for older clips is on gunbroker.com. Under search, type in 760, hit search and when the page is displayed, check the box below search that asks for a partial match logic. I have bought clips from G&G Sales on gunbroker and have been very happy with their service and the quality of the products they sold me.

I didn't realize that they'd switched away from metal clips for these rifles. :?

I use some old 760 clips in 30-06 (that I bought to use in my 742's) in my 7600 in .35 Whelen, so they should be OK for you.

I got one online at Gunbroker for $18.95 + S&H. Great tip. Thanks. There's something I just don't warm up to about the new mag design. I guess all those years with the 760 set me in my ways.

The new clip design is different. Something about that flat bottom design "just aint right". My 35 Rem carbine came with the new clip design. The clip don't feel right when I carry my rifle. The old design kinda cradles in the hand; this new design feels a bit boxy.
I am wondering Dave, who did you buy your clip from?

257Robt, I bought the mag from Sonnys Gun Shop in Tampa. When you go online type in 7600. I got more hits. Dave

I got the new polymer bottom clip with the 7400 Carbine I purchased last fall. It is not as comfortable in the hand as the older clip when the loaded rifle is being carried with the clip inserted. I must also remark that it is not uncomfortable to carry either. However, I believe the new polymer bottomed clip is more durable than the old metal bottom version. This winter I dropped the loaded clip onto a concrete floor at the range. It landed on the bottom and functions fine with only a small scuff mark to show for my clumsiness. I dropped one of the old magazines similarly almost 30 years ago and it quit working right away. So perhaps there is a value to the polymer bottom, even if unintended.

I got the my old style magazine today. It works as well as looks better. I'll probably get another one later.
