Bipod on a Encore
« on: July 16, 2004, 09:32:56 AM »
Has anyone tried installing one of the 1/2" wood screw type sling studs on a factory encore pistol forend? I would like to do this for mounting a bipod on the forend but don't know if it works? Thanks for any recommendations.

i do it on all of mine......BUT, mine are for sling use only. i put the stud out on the end of the forearm, where it is slightly angled down.

you might check out ol georgia jim. he makes forearms, and now makes them for the encore, and he could build you a replacement that would be more bi-pod friendly. made from hardwood....or very nice laminates.

I did it.  Got a bipod and decided to mount the screw myself.  I drilled a hole at a slight angle where the swivel will be straight when mounted.  Then on the inside I drilled a hole so the nut could be flush with the bottom channel where the barrel sits.  Everything would have been perfect except I let the drill run just a little on the outside hole.  Happens when you don't have the correct tools.  Anyway, a little finish on the cut and you don't really see the scratch.

I ordered the bag of 12 screws and nuts from U. Mikes out of midway catalog.  I had a rifle and three pistol forearms I wanted to do.  I have not done the bottom of the grip with a screw because I primarily use a bandolier holster when I hunt.  Hope this helps.  The screw will fit the pattern of the existing Contender holes.  I did not have to drill the forearms for the Contender.

Hi 257,
What are you using the bipod for? (hunting, bench, etc.) Just curious.   I pretty much gave up on them, for hunting, and went to shooting sticks. Less fuss to level, and more forgiving in posistioning.  Ya, you got too carry them, but, I appreciate their flexibility and quickness once you get used to using them.
Didn't mean to talk you out the bipod, just wanted too throw out another option.

onesonek: I am planning on using the bipod for shooting groundhogs and coyotes at long range with 22-250 and 25-06 barrels. I do use shooting sticks for  deer and other big game hunting but have decided that a bipod would work better for my style of shooting (mostly flat ground). Thank you for all the replies. I think I'll give it a try. :)
