Does anyone use these red dot sights?
« on: August 02, 2004, 10:51:19 PM »
I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the BSA 30 mm red dot scope that has a 4 moa dot and a 11 position rheostat? I am also wondering about the Simmons model which is basically the same thing. Does anyone know about the quality of these sights and which would be best? It will be used on a mossberg 500 for deer hunting with buckshot and an ocassional slug. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The BSA's are junk I managed to break two of them, one on a PPC gun shooting light .38spl, and another on a .22 lr target pistol. I now use two Millet 30 MM reddots on the .22 and a Ruger SB Hunter .44 mag. Both have been working perfectly for over 5 years. Midsouth has them for $78.00. A friend of mine had a Simonds reddot and sold it because the dot flared (distorted) when it was turned up. I'll admit I'm the wrong person to ask about Simonds because I got screwed by six of their crappy scopes(I sold 4, and just threw 2 of them away they were so bad). I would hope their newer products are better, but I'll never know because I won't buy any of their junk again.

Some of the guys on the H&R shotgun forum speak highly of the NC red dot that you can buy on eBay for about $30.00. They also seem to like the Simmons but dislike the BSA. I have no expeience with any of them.
