encore and mag loads
« on: July 19, 2004, 11:42:16 AM »
hey all im new to this forum and wanted to ask a question about my new 209x50... a buddy of mine told me that if i wanted to shoot my gun out to 200 yards i would probably have to jack up the powder to 150 grains but i dont really think that is necessary. i just plan on hunting whitetails here in ohio and i will be using 777 behind shockwaves or barnes mzs or whatever sabot shoots the best for me. do you guys think that the 150 grains will really help extend my range out to 200 is what i want to know?
:x Band and scoop, like the Mexicans. :)

This thread is also in the T/C Encore and Contender Rifles Area. It has a lot of good info there already. Any other input you may have, please feel free to join in.

200 yards is a good poke with a ML.  I would want a load that shoots very good if I was planning on 200 yard shots.  Many ML's (or shooters) don't seem to shoot as well with max loads as they do with 90-120 grain loads.  I don't know if its an actual loss of accuracy or the recoil and muzzle blast affecting the shooter, but either way I'd be willing to give up some velocity for better accuracy.  The only way to tell how you and your rifle handle the 150 gr loads it to shoot a few.  I don't think you would need 150 grs but it would flatten trajectory and at 200 yards a slight difference/error in range estimation could be a huge difference in POI so the flatter trajectory could be a plus.

One shot is correct, I have my encore zeroed at 100yds with 250 sst, and 2 pellets of t7 accuracy is great 3/4 inch groups now when ijacked it up to 150 accuracy suffered!  but i did dope my gun to 200yds and it was almost  13 inches differance (I dont have my sheet in front of me) but it was close! shoot your most accurate load then shot the gun at 200yds
