I bought a Winchester 1000X from the Sportsmen's Guide.

It appears to be a pretty good gun for the money. It came with a scope which I think is mostly plastic.

Do any of you have any thought on this rifle?

Pete,
I only know what I've HEARD. I've heard it's not a bad air gun at all for the money. The only negative comments I've heard are concerning the trigger which is said to be terrible.

Do you have a chronograph? Why don't you give us a little report on it?

Big6X6, thanks for the reply.
The trigger was said to be adjustable in the SG ad. I haven't messed with it yet. The front sight was broke in the box and I called Daisy, who apparently is the manufacturer and they are sending me a replacement.

I tried sighting in with the scope but I'd get 2 shots touching at about 15 feet and the 3rd would be out to the left and the next would be there also and then the 3rd would be more left. I finally ran out of adjustment. Looking down on the scope it appears as if it is mis-aligned with the barrel. I'll wait until the sight arrives and then do some switching of the mounts and rings. With the front sight in place I'll be able to align the scope after I get it sighted in with the iron (plastic) sights.

There is no mention of adjusting the trigger in the manual. Does anyone know if they are adjustable and the procedure for doing so?

I bought one for my oldest daughter to replace the POS Gamo 880 she wore out. It's not a bad rifle for the price(better than any Gamo) but as stated the trigger is the pits. It does get smoother with time is it's only saving grace. Accuracy is good and as they wear in it gets better. I do have a chronograph and got 957 fps. when we first got it and now it gets closer to 980 fps. with over 1,500 pellets down the bore. This was using light weight 7.10 gr. Beeman Silver Bear pellets that I had around. Unless you use a good scope and mounts the 1000X will flat out tear up cheap scopes. When it comes to scopes and magnum springer air rifles money will tell. Get the best you can because going cheap will cost you more in the long run. Lawdog

Lawdawg, thanks for scope advice, although I had already read that on the back pages here. I did figure that since they included the scope with the gun it would stand up to the abuse.

I to have a chronograph (2 in fact) and when greenup comes I'll see what it does. I'll probably have to wait until then to really get it sighted.

One thing I noticed is that the mounts point the scope slightly to the right of being in line with the bore. This explains why it shoots left and why I ran out of adjustment. It doesn't explain the shifting point of impact but that to will wait until Spring.

I got this mostly for shooting gophers out of the garden. Last year I had 5 standing outside their hole. I snuck up on them with my old 20" hammer 12 gauge and got all 5 with one shot.

That disturbs the neighborhood too much to do very often

I bought one several months ago. Mine is stamped Daisy Powerline 1000, but is the same as the Winchester (Daisy is manufacturer). As already stated, the trigger is horrible. The cheap scope included died a quick horrible death. I ended up removing the scope and added a cheap laser light from WalMart.

With the laser light, it works great for sniping rabbits at dusk :twisted:

Thinking about buying a Beeman Kodiak in .25caliber....

Hi Pistoleer-I had the Winchester 1000 for a short time. I have posted before about this rifle. Initially there were no problems but further down the track the rifle caused me (and others) a lot of problems. It can be accurate and powerful but I would be careful with it. The safety on mine gave way when cocked and ready to fire!!) and the spring broke after about 2000 shots. I eventually realised that this rifle has a number of problems and traded it in for a Weirauch HW95-similar to the R9. Have fun with it but remember it's cheap cos it's cheap and will never stand up against quality. My next rifle could be a BSA Supersport 1000, just waiting for my supplier to let me know when the next cut price lot come in!

PS does the Winchester still come with the safety at the back of the spring chamber? Not a good place for it if you want to mount a scope!!

Actually Daisy doesn't manufacture them they are just the importers. Daisy has a contract with Winchester to use their name for marketing purposes. The Winchester 1000X was manufactured in Turkey but Daisy had a falling out with that company and now they are manufactured elsewhere(where I dont know and considering the lower quality product I dont really care). The Winchester 1000X I bought for my daughter is totally different from what is available now. Safety is in a different location, different stock and different sights(including a different scope mounting dovetailed groves). Just to let everyone know that I don't like the looks of the newer Winchester 1000X at all. Lawdog

The wood had a great deal of figure, but I think "Brazilian walnut" might have been a better description for Daisy to have used.

I would rate the finish as at least appearing on par with that the of Cometa(Spain) built RWS 94. However, I liked the wood, cheek-piece and forend flutes of the Daisy just a little bit more.

The Daisy 800X is the same rifle as the Winchester 800X and is made by the same company that makes the Winchester 1000X, they are just the lower powered version is all. Daisy needs to start making their own springer rifles and quit fooling around trying to import them like Beeman does. Either that or contract with better manufactures like Beeman. Lawdog

I heard about the rifles tearing up scopes so I took my steel tube Weaver off. Do I have to use my Leupold on an air rifle? I currently use open sights and the squirrels laugh at me from the trees in the back yard. I have sighted this thing in so many times it's pathetic. I had the rear sight all the way down and now it's hitting low with it all the way up. any suggestions?

I think it's time for Daisy to associate their name with better quality products as they have already started with the Avanti XS40, the only Daisy I would buy. Not to offend anybody this is just my opinion.
