Northern Hunting.
« on: April 29, 2004, 03:09:09 AM »
Been reading at the GBO sight for a while always go to the bolt action rifles and silhouette rifle section and than quit. Today I decided to scan through all the forums and found this one. This is great. I am from Newark Valley NY which is a dimple about 20 miles northwest of Binghamton NY. I have been hunting NY for over 30 yrs. I am interested in finding out more about hunting in the Adirondacks. Also wouldn't mind getting hooked up with other NY hunters interested in the Adirondacks. Any interest out there?????????????? :D

Hay crazy - where ya been (LOL)?  Mikey.  BTW, that area you hunt in is a pretty good one, so I hear.  And the idea of a bunch of us getting together is a pretty good one.  One of the other New Yorkers raised this and I think it's about time.  If nothing else we can shoot crows in Auburn this fall, or is it next year (?).  Mikey.

It's good to see there are other hunters out there interested in hunting the Adirondacks. I guess the hardest part is getting started. Such as finding decent area's to hunt, scheduling ect. Would really like to make this work and if it works well, even someday leasing some hunting land with a group or buying into an established hunting group lease.

New York Hunter-

FYI, I live in the Central Square area, and Spencer lives nearby, too.  I'm always up for hunting with new SAFE friends.

I love your little picture, I own a bulldog named Lucy.

Consider making plans
Maybe we should consider setting a date aside in late summer to get together in person or online and make plans for a hunting trip for the fall. It would give us new places to hunt. And besides I could think of worse ways to spend a day than hunting with a bunch of people who like to do the same.

I don't know how you guys may feel about this, but there is a lot of public land in the Parish/Redfield area, which is just inside the northern zone.  It is possible to apply for doe permits in this area, and the deer density may be a little better than the Adirondacks.  It is still woodsy and hilly, and may be a more convenient drive for some.  After the first weekend, the hunters stop coming as much, and it may not be so crowded.  I have seen lots of deer sign and deer up there, I just haven't tagged one yet.  It is possible to get turned around up there, but it isn't so big that you are going to wander around until you die, you will always be within a couple miles of some sort of road.

Well, I was thinking I may do some rifle hunting on Holloween weekend.  If anyone wants to join me and Spencer, send me an e-mail at   REO341@aol.com.  I have requested the time off from work, but it has not been approved yet.  They always seem to wait until about a month before...
