M44 vs FN-FAL
« on: July 25, 2004, 05:33:50 AM »
"Lyly" my M44 Hungarian and I traded shot for shot with a gentleman with a FN-FAL (7.62 X 51) shooting with ironsights (don't know which model) at the 100 yard range. The results..... both turned in 2 1/2", 10 shot groups in the black clustered around the "X". I think we made some of the "scoped Browning Remchester crowd " nervous.....

Thats great you represented us very well.  Military surplus guns get no respect at all.   But they sure do earn their keep. good shooting; BigBill

Take a Swede and really embarrass them next time!!!
I did something similar last year to 3 fellas.
When doing something like this, don't take a
cocky attitude, Act like it is no surprise that your
"OLD RIFLE" shot that well. That really gets them!
I saw my father really blow some folks minds once with an
old FN 49 (We are real partial to those) and a Beretta
model 1934 pistol.  They (The other guys)
were shooting water filled milk jugs at about 100 meters!
My Father was kinda' of the attitude that any one could hit
a milk jug at that range. The challenge was on!  These other
guys were using Scoped "High Dollar" Rifles, My father had the
standard Peep sights on the FN. He told them to watch the Red
lid on the Jug, He fired one shot and the lid was gone.
None of the others could do it, They kept vaporizing the jugs.
He would not shoot the rifle again!   He had proven his point.
The next target was a Hornets nest on the other side of the river.
About 60 yards. He said he was going to knock it off into the river.
But instead of the rifle, he pulled out his Beretta .380. one shot
clipped the Limb the nest was on. the nest swung down but did not
instantly fall. a few wood fibers held it up. But for all intents and
purposes, he made the shot. My dads cool attitude really
rubbed it in, He acted like he could sit there and do things
like that all day! And honestly, he probably could have!
He was a Gunnery Sgt. during the Korean war and none of his
skills have left him.

Hey S.Sumner it sounds like your DAD  "the old gunnery sarge" is sure some shot and equal to Sargent York for sure.  Did you know the best shooters come from the south?  I met a normandy vet the other day and he told me he is still alive today because of the southern boys he was with were all good shooters.  While most of the northern boys were shooting and who knows were their bullets were going. He said if it wasn't for the southern boys who helped take that beach we would of been in trouble.  He said just the site of the bodies on the beach was unbelievable and you had to be there. I found his story to be true because if we look at history in the civil war out of the 600,000 killed in the total war 400,000 were union soldiers.  I'm not taking anything away from those who paid the ultimate price with there lives on that day there all heroes to me.

It sounds like your DAD represented us well too and you guys are sure raising an interest in military guns so maybe some will give them a good home because they sure deserve a good home too.  These guns in the right shooters hands can sure put on a show in accuracy second to none.  Your DAD was shooting the caps off the milk jugs thats awesome I would be rollin on the ground laughing if i was there after seeing the look on the other guys faces.
