Win 94 Packer rifle in 44mag
« on: July 28, 2004, 04:41:22 AM »
I recently picked up a Win 94 Packer in 44mag. This is the one with the 18 inch bbl, pistol grip stock and saddle ring. It was used but unfired. Still had the original factory grease in it.

I have had so many people compliment this gun saying the walnut and finish with the ultra high gloss is unbelievable. Even the bluing on this gun seems better than any win I have seen. The wood on this gun is like that of a fine Italian shot gun.

Anyone else have the same luck with the packer style or if this some kind of fluke ?

I have been looking at these guns on www.gunbroker.com and frankly have been a dit discouraged by their finish. Yours seems to be an exception. They are a great rifle in concept. A better finish would have made them that much more so. This is what they could have looked like.

I can tell you that the one I have is better looking than the pic you posted. Both the wood and blue. Especially the wood.

Cabin 4 did you see the ones on gun broker? They seem to lack figure in the stocks.
I think you got an exceptional deal either restocked or a higher grade for some reason. How is the smoothness of the action? POW

The action is very very good. No slop but a bit rough. A little polishing will fix that up easy.

I really did find a gem in this particular gun. Not to mention its a great shooter.

Cabin 4 I agree you did find an exceptional rifle there. I envy you.
The one I posted is an old and rare M64 carbine but compares in form to a 94 pack rifle with its pistol grip, half magazine and carbine length barrel.
I still have not ruled out a 44 Mag pack rifle but really do wish they had better wood in them such as you found in yours. Good luck. POW
