44 mag 240 grain - Speer Gold Dot vs XTP
« on: January 12, 2003, 06:09:40 PM »
Any experience using either of the above bullets in a handgun would be appreciated.  Info that interest me... accuracy/consistency, weight retention.  I have loaded using XTPs but am curious to Speers claim of weight retention due to their bonding process.  Thanks in adavance.

They're both Premium, and they both expand very well.  I use both brands interchangably. I reload with XTP's and shoot Gold Dot factory in my carry gun. I have taken a 4x5 Elk with a Ruger Blackhawk .45 Colt loaded with a heavy charge of 2400 and the 300gr XTP. It performed fantastic. How else could I tell you about the Elk and performance of the load? I think you can have confidence in either brand!
The first shot is the best shot, it may be your only shot!  Do it with a single-shot.
