Well it's below zero here but that still doesn't stop the planning for the upcoming 2003 silhouette season.
Factoryville, PA - Factoryville Rod and Gun Club will kick off their season on Sunday March 9, 2003 and continue on the 2nd Sunday of each month thru November. Start time is 9 AM
Endciott, NY - Square Deal Sportsmen Inc. matches start Tuesday May 13, 2003 and continue ever Tuesday evening thru August. Start time is 6 PM
Owego, NY - Tioga County Sportsmen Assoc. matches start on Wednesday May 14, 2003 and continue ever Wednesday thru August. Start time is 6 PM.
If you want any info or directions email me at mrpetek@aol.com. Please put SILHOUETTE in the subject header.

Rifle Silhouettes

ppk1:  Thankee extra much.  I have been looking to get started in rifle silhouette because I love shooting long range rifle.  Owego isn't too awful far from where I am but Elmira is near 4 hours away.  And I'm glad the matches start when it's a bit warmer - helps keep my old eyeballs from fogging up.

Now, do they require you to use scopes or are there categories for open sights???

Thanks for the help.  Mikey.

Mikey, Unless you have the eyes of a hawk shooting silhouettes without a scope wouldn't be much fun for you. A 100 meter shot, off-hand at a roughly 6 inch target (Rams) is a stretch for anyones ability.
Not to discourage you from trying but most everyone will be using scopes with adjustable elevation knobs of a least 18 to 24 power.
The combination of the distances 40, 60, 77, and 100 meters and the size of the targets at each distance, chickens 2x3, pigs 3x4, turkeys 3x5 and rams 5x6 inches make this a tough sport, but a lot of fun.
You'll at least need a good reliable 22 with some consistant ammo to have some success.
If you don't have good combination right now I have three loner rifles that I bring to my matches (Square Deal Sportsmen) all with good target scopes that I use to introduce people to the sport.
Any good 22 that works for you is fine to get started.
