Flyrod....congrats on the new barrel.

As far as break-in goes, here is what I did. First of all, I like to fireform ALL brass to fit the chamber with which I am working. For example....for my VVGC 223 I bought some cheapo bullets and used some extra podwer on hand to load some mild cheap to shoot break-in rounds. Followed the break-in procedure and had my brass ready to go. Also during break-in is a good time to get your scope on paper.

During the break-in, I found that J&B Non imbedding bore compound also helped with breaking-in. Be sure you have some good copper remover....CR10 has been good to me. As far as accuracy has gone from my VVGC barrels, here it what i have gotten

223 Rem VVGC SS 22" 40gr Nos Btip best group .290" 5 shots .500"avg

22-250AI VVGC Matte 26" 55gr Nos Btip best group .385" 5 shots .550avg

280AI VVGC Matte 26" Best group HV120gr GS Custom bullet...absolutely screaming down the tube...5 shots best group .420" avg .650"

280AI VVGC Blue High Gloss 26" 140gr Nos Accubond So far...early in load development..... 3100fps and getting right qat .500-.600"

HAve loaded for a few othe VVGC barrels for friends and ALL have been around 1/2 MOA or better.

Thanks for the info. I had bought Butch's Bore Shine to clean the barrel. Have you ever used it? If you have, is it good are not? My barrel is a 26" 270 win. heavy taper SS topped off with a 3.5 - 10 leupold VX III.

Yes, i have used it and it is good but I like CR10 better. Butches will work fine though. Everybody has their preference.

You will definitely find your best accuracy after the brass is once fired. What bullets are you planning on shooting? What brass?

Bet it will be a great barrel. Hanger bar....factory forend?

Factory composite camo stock. It took a little work fitting it to the barrel but I think that it turned out real good. I had the barrel made for a six hole base so I had to fit the large dia. part of the barrel into the forend a little more. I will shoot nosler partiton 130 and 150 grain since the main purpose of the gun is to hunt deer. I have a lot of confidence in nosler partitons' on deer. I will use new Win. brass. After you fire form your brass do you still full resize it.

Not sure what all you know about reloading the Encore, so here goes what I do......

fireform all brass. I FL size just enough to leave .002-.004" of headspace. Meaning that the barrel to frame gap in my gun is .004, i size all brass to protrude from the barrel .002" leaving .002" headspace. It requires backing the die off a little on some rounds. Mike B e l l m's website explains in detail.

I usually seat close to but not into the lands. I will load 3 rounds for each powder I like the velocity of from mauals One at max....1 grain below....2 grains below. I fire them in reverse order and see if that max is my max or lower. Then i will load 11 to 16 rounds of each powder at my max and shoot 2 or 3 five shot groups allowing for one round as a fowling shot for each powder type. Clean well between powders.

If you need more detail. I can email it to you. I also have Quickload if you want me to run some loads through it.

I finally got a chance to shoot a few rounds thru my new barrel. I just picked up a couple boxes of cheap ammo"win. 130 power point" from wal-mart to start the break-in procedure. The brass will be fireformed so I may start reloading for this barrel. I used a 50 yard range I have behind my house for pistols. Not having a fancy rest I use sand bags to rest the guns on. After cleaning between the first five rounds I shot three shot groups and cleaned the barrel as suggested by VV. My groups improved each time, probably from my technique improving. My last 3 shot group measured .460" outside to outside. I think that would be around .183" center to center at 50 yards. Clearly the barrel is capable of shooting less than one inch at a hundred yards. I am extremely pleased with this barrel.
I guess that my next project around the house will be to set up a 100 yard range.
