Who moves scopes between barrels?
« on: July 16, 2004, 01:10:12 AM »
I am curious as to how many Encore (or Contender) users switch scopes between barrels.  If you do, what system do you use to attach the scope?

If you do not switch scopes - why not?

Thanks for any advice/opinions, I'm trying to get started on the right foot.... Jim B.

I have done it ........but I prefer not to. Basically I have two barrels that are set up with exactly the same kind of mount. Weaver mount with basic Burris rings it is possible to move  a scope from one to the other but these are varmint barrels and I want them to be extremely accurate ...thus I do not move anything. The rest of my barrels have different combinations of rings/ mounts and scopes and you could not necessarily move scopes without re-sight in.

Different barrels have different sightins. .357 max is not sighted in to the same POI at 100 yds as say my 6mm. One is a 150 yd gun the other is a 300 yd gun.........

I have 2 Encore muzzleloaders and the each have there own scope.
I have 2 Encore pistol frames, a 30-06, 22-250, 7mmBR and 44MAG and they all wear there own scope.
I have A contender frame and I have a 444Marlin and a 44MAG barrel that wear there own scopes.
I do not like to have to change scopes. I sight a gun in with a particular scope and I make adjustments for different bullets. I have scopes from Burris 3X9X32, Weaver 2X8X32 and a lot of Leupold scopes in 2X20mm EER. My variable scopes, I use on my long range shooting pistols and the Leupold 2X20mm I use on my shorter range barrels. Just a hassle having to sight them in all the time. JMHO.

I have 6 barrels that are scoped all with their own scopes.  When I go to the range I take 4-6 barrels to shoot and I want to shoot nice pretty groups in the bullseye without sighting the scopes in.  It does get expensive though.

I have seven barrels and eight scopes, so all scopes are dedicated to one barrel.  The extra scope is a Burris 2-7X scope that I use on my 357 Max for load development but like to use a Nikon 2X for hunting.
All are mounted using Weaver or VV bases and I prefer the Burris Signature Zee rings.

Well Gregory, I am glad to hear that I am not the only one with extra scopes laying around.  I sometimes feel a need to buy a barrel to go with it, do you have that problem also?

Well I just used my last extra scope. I will have to get another one. :) Well then you know it will be lonesome, so I might have to get a barrel friend for it. I do have a backup scope that I am taking to Alaska with me in late August. I guess when I get back, I might need a barrel for it.  :-D

Well Jim,
I only currently have a .260 barrel and a 209 x 50. I  have Leupold Q D bases on both barrels and use one scope w Q D rings. I'll just add a Q D base to my next barrel. I reload and can shoot in my back yard and find re sighting in very very enjoyable. In the Marine Corp we learned how to record "dope" windage & elevation adjustments. This is very easy to do and you only need to do it once. To me one of the biggest advantages of the Encore is to use various barrels. The fewer scopes, the more barrels one can afford. I'm planning on picking up another barrel soon and I will only need to add a base.
