Bisley Vaquero Strenght for hunting ?
« on: July 29, 2004, 06:10:05 PM »
I figure this would be a good forum to ask about the strenght of the
Bisley Vaquero .45 Colt or .44 Mag. 5.5" barrel.
I like the looks and feel of the Vaquero and I am thinking of purchasing one.
My Question is can it handle hot loads like the SBH. as I would like to use it for hunting as well as plinking.
Also what would be your preferance of caliber be.
Deer, hog and bear hunting.

Howdy,

When I started the CAS game, I bought RVBs in 44 mag, so that I could use them for hunting.  Turned out I never did, but I shot some hot loads through them, not many.. but about a box.
The biggest problem for me was that the point of aim was drastically different from the mild CAS loads to the heavy.  So I was not confident enough to use them as hunting guns.

And I'd go for 44 mag.. better choices in factory ammo.
Good luck,

Rugers are the only multi purpose hand guns when it comes to CAS and hunting,IMHO.

I like the .45lc, but I reload. The load I use (which is on the Hodgdon website), a 300 gr. xtp jhp, with 21 gr of Lil Gun, will take down Mule deer, whitetail, and any hog you run across. At a reasonable distance of course.

Big John's right. Ruger Vaqueros are just like Timex watches. They take a lickin & keep on tickin. They're built Ford tough. :-D
