An article in Thursday's Chicago Sun-Times shows a monster pig shot in Alapaha Georgia that weighed-in at 1000 lbs. It supposedly is 12 feet long, shot by Chris Griffen last month on the River Oak Plantation owned by Ken Holyoak. Have'nt heard any threads on this one from this forum. No pig roast, they buried it.

WOW. We had a big Hamp boar when Iwas a kid and raised them. He went 1100 and some on our scale. I wouldn't have wanted to eat that old meat either. I've never heard of a wild one that big.

There a farm a couple of miles from where I live here in PA. They had the most recent world record hog weighing in at around 1200lbs. He recently died and this same farm is going for another record with a new hog.

They get big on the farm and if they escape and have good food source I don't see why they can't get as big. After all, most of the hogs shot are farrel and not really "wild". The one in the pic too me looks ferral.

Pictures can be deceiving, and the article smells foul to me.   Too big to mount the head on a wall, so he simply burries a new world record size hog with 9" cutters?  Yeah right, sure I believe him.  Sounds like the Rompola Buck to me.  Wonder if he has any land for sale down in Florida??

I don't dought the size of the hog at 1,000lbs. From the pic, it looks about the size of Wilber at 1,200lbs. The largest pig on record wieghed 2,500lbs.

I agree with Mark C, there would have been a lot of marketing money made with one this size just using it in outdoor supplier shows around the country. Sure smells to me. And yes I grew up on a farm and we raised a lot of hogs and I have seen some in the 1000 to 1100 lb weight but not a ferral hog. Unless the game farm he was on was feeding reguarley and often then I guess it would be a domesticated-ferral hog but still hard to believe they buried it.

I'm not buying it. You can do amazing things with Photo Shop. The article posted with the photo says the hog was shot, but there's not a trace of blood in the picture. I think that anyone would know the value of shooting a wild hog that size - even in Tifton, GA. The head was too big to mount? Gimme a break!
