Beretta owns Burris
« on: August 02, 2004, 04:03:28 AM »
A friend told me Beretta bought Burris and somehow it slipped right by me. I decided to send them an email and they returned a reply rather quickly saying they are in fact the owners and are going to improve quality control and customer support. What do you all think? Does anyone know how long they have owned Burris? Will anyone consider a Burris for your next purchase? How do the Tikka and Sako crowd feel about this,if you didn't know?

I don't know if they have owned Burris for 30 days(which could sway my purchase their way) or 10 years(which would not sway me from Bushnell and Nikon) I asked Beretta how long they have owned Burris but they left that part out in their reply.

Thanks for the replys.
I could not find anything on Beretta's website except a link to Burris, that even mentions them, likewise there is not anything on Burris's website that mentions Beretta....I could have easily looked over it, and would not doubt it if I did.

Has Beretta improved the company?(I am not saying they needed improvement, but there was room for it) I dont want to tick off those Burris lovers  :-)

We have not had much contact with Burris before Beretta bought them, but the only really problem we have had is they are a little slow at things, such as returning calls and returning items.

TheOpticZone,
Thanks again for your reply.
To me time is rather important, I always keep an extra scope/rings zeroed for all my rifles for them just in case moments but I still prefer a quick turn-around...so would you recommend me stick with what I know or give Burris a try?
I have never owned a Burris but know several people that have/do and almost all love them. I prefer a scope that I will not have to worry about returning....what scope have you sold the most of and have had the least amount of problems/returns? I love my Nikons and Bushnell Elite but I would like to try something new(new to me anyway)

Please don't recommend ANY Leupolds. I had one fog internally and just can't/won't be able to trust one again, although the repair turn-around was VERY FAST(I gave it to my buddy and he sent it in)(He loves it, but who would'nt love a FREE Leupold)

Thanks again in advance and I will trust your opinion.

If you are using Nikon and Bushnell's, I personally would stick with them, especially the Nikon.  I like the Nikon scopes. Of all the brands that we sell and based on the number we sell, the Nikon has the least return for problems.  We have been in business just over 2 years and here is our summary:

Nikon          1 return
Leupold       2 return
Bushnell      7 return

These are the 3 big selling brands that we deal with.  Another one that you may want to consider for the next purchase is a Zeiss Conquest.  Very good scope and hard to beat.  On the pricier size, but seem to be worth it.

This is the text from Beretta's web site announcing the purchase of Burris, it doesn't show up in the link above because the site displays in frames.
I found it with a google search for "Beretta Burris".

BERETTA HOLDING PURCHASES BURRIS COMPANY INC

The Italian group acquires 100% of the USA leader in precision scopes for hunting shotguns

Beretta Holding purchased 100% of Burris Company Inc. on 28th October 2002. Burris is the Colorado leader in the mid-high USA market of precision scopes for hunting shotguns and sport binoculars.
Burris company employs 80 people and its turnover in 2001 was $11 million with a production of 50,000 scopes. Burris is an industrial operation with internal R&D (Research & Development), Production and Marketing.
Burris company was established in 1972 by design engineer, Don Burris, who patented innovative technology in the production of scopes for hunting and sport and turned it into an industrial and commercial venture.
The company then passed to Inductotherm Industries Inc in 1985 who developed the technology to achieve the current capacity of the company to produce scopes of the highest quality.
The Beretta Group is growing all over the world thanks to its strength and profitability. This growth is planned and achieved targeting international companies that are leaders in their own business segments and that can contribute to strengthen the product and commercial offer of the entire Beretta Group. Burris fits perfectly in this scenario.
Furthermore, Burris also fits perfectly in the Beretta strategy in expanding into the non-firearms business. This process started 10 years ago with the creation of the Apparel and Accessory division that shows strong growth thanks to an improved product offer and a widespread distribution. The development of this line is targeted not only for the hunters and the shooters but also for the outdoor life enthusiast.
The retail operations in USA and Europe, through the Gallery and Shop in Shop project, respond in establishing the Beretta brands as the market leader in the current outdoor offer.
Following the opening of a showroom in New York and the recent inauguration of a Gallery in Paris in the prestigious Champs Elysées area, the Beretta Group, managed by Cav. Ugo Gussalli Beretta together with his sons Pietro and Franco, is planning to conquer Milan with the opening of a Beretta Gallery by the end of 2003."

TheOpticZone,
Thank you for you time and honesty. I believe I will try the Zeiss you recommended. I too agree with you on Nikon scopes I have a couple on rifles with more than 1000 shots each with no problems whatsoever.  It will be a few weeks or maybe even a month and a week but I will order from you when I do, I give you my word. Thanks again.

quickdtoo,
Thank you for your time also, I think Beretta should post it on their homepage myself, unless they are ashamed of it.(especially since its been that long already.)

Hope yall have a great day/night.

I have a Burris Signature 1.5x6 and it's my favorite scope. Burris is redesigning their scopes and the only thing I'd change about mine is it would be at least 1/2" longer between the turret and front bell. No problems with it and it's very bright and clear.

I would stick with the Nikon Monarchs and Elite 4200s - heck, I HAVE! :)   I think that, between the two, I must have about 12 of them.  How's that for a recommendation?
