Its time to buy a new compact carry weapon for full-time off duty use.

I was originally thinking of purchasing a Para Carry LDA in 45 auto. I really like the action but have gotten some bad feed back on their reliability. Not sure on this one.

Seems to be a lot of guys who really like the Glock 36, slim single stack 45. Reported to be VERY reliable with almost any ammo. I previously owned a smaller Glock 27 in 40S&W and wish I hadn't sold it. Another good option.

Also giving consideration to the Kel-Tec PM 40 which is very small and light. It is the smallest of the group.

So what do you guys suggest for a compact CCW? No single actions or revolvers. :wink:

Correction - that should have been a "Kahr" PM 40

I personally carry a KAHR P9 covert and couldn't be happier. I shot a PM40 once and did not like it. Too much recoil for good follow up shots. I have also heard a lot of complaints about the PM40. Every thing from ejection problems to dropped magazines. The one I shot would drop the mag about every 3 or 4 shots. KN

A month or so ago I picked up a Para CCO with the X extractor. I have 500 rounds through the gun thus far and had on failure to feed in the 3rd clip full. Since then there hasn't been a hitch. So far I have no complaints. My local dealer sells alot of Para guns and to hear him say it he's only had to send one or two back. He has very good things to say about their customer service and waranty work as well.

Para is a good choice in my opinion.

We have a couple of fellows that shoot IDPA with us that have Para's. They are always clearing jams! Don't know if it is their guns or their ammo, so can't say, but it just looks bad! I have a Kahr PM9 Covert that I love. Very (can you say VERY) accurate and easy to shoot. Had a mini Glock in .40, just too much buck and roar for what you got. Why would you go with the .40 with 35,000 lbs chamber pressure to get the same ballistics that a .45 has with only 14,000 lbs pressure. If it fits your hands, go with the glock 36 in .45, if not, I'm sure you will be happy with a Kahr. But the .40 is a handful. 44 Man

I took a closer look at the Para "Carry" today and it is definately bigger and heavier than I'm willing to carry alll the time.

The Glock 27 was available and I had fired thousands of rounds from my previous one without a hiccup, so that's a maybe.

I looked at the PM 40 and liked it a lot. However, EVERYONE says that its a bear to shoot and follow-up shots would be slow and difficult. The PM 9 is supposed to be much easier to shoot and would be a pleasure to carry. Leaning heavily in that direction even though I really wanted a 40 or 45. I guess you just have to make some consessions if want want small, thin & light in a CCW.

I just read a review of the new Ruger compact 45, looks like something you might want to look into. Ruger autos have always been big and blocky, but this one is pretty small for a 45ACP that holds eight rounds. The rear sight is drift adjustable, the barrel looks to be fully supported, and it's no bigger than a Commander. HTH.

I have the Glock 27 and love it!! 100% reliable and easy to conceal. I'm in love with the Glock 36 also, just need the $$$$$$ :lol:

I like the new Ruger .45acp when it comes to feel. Though the gun has a magazine disconnect which still lets the trigger pull the same and sound the same, yet not fire. That I don't like. Could be a big problem in a life or death situation.

I just got a HK USPc 45ss and if you're interested in follow up shots, it may be the one to get. The recoil is somewhat tame compared to some of my other smaller caliber pistols and handles real well. The only drawback that people see in them is the price, but for me the performance, warrenty and looks outweighed the price.

If you like the mdl 27, bet you'll like the mdl 36 even more. For me, the 36 carries better due to the single stack configuration. My mdl 36 carries like a compact, and shoots like a full size. I have a "clipdraw" on mine. It carries IWB like a dream!!!

Brand new here, but I'll cast another positive vote for the Kahr. I've never shot a .40 Kahr, but I am in love with my P9.

I'm getting ready to buy a Kimber ultra carry. Don't know how you feel about 1911's but I love them. Much thinner than the Glock and from what I hear more realiable than the Para. :-)

Paul, last April I bought a Kimber that still does not have the needed trigger work done on it (an $1100 gun that needs trigger work?). Just today I picked up a Para Carry LDA 6.45 but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I'm betting it won't need trigger work.
