7mmBR Encore Pistol for Deer???
« on: August 09, 2004, 11:41:13 AM »
Is any one using a 7mmBR Encore Pistol for deer? I have one and was shooting it today, and got very accurate groups at 100 yards. I had a 5 shot group under 1 inch at 100 yards. I also got a 3 shot group that could be covered by a dime. I could not believe the accuracy of this gun.

Also what is your bullet weight and kind of bullet you are using?

Thanks

Redhawk1,

I haven't used one in the past but I plan on using one this year.  I'm shooting 120 grain ballistic tips and max charges of H335.  I'm getting 2500+ fps out of a 14" barrel and sub-MOA groups.  Good enough for hunting deer in my opinion.

I am using the 120 grain ballistic tips with 28.5 gr. of H322. I do not know the fps, but they are accurate.  :D

I don't know about deer, but I shot over 100 rounds through my 15" Encore today in 7mm BR testing some new loads.  I was knocking down 55 pound Steel Silhouettes at 500 meters.  I use 28.8 grains of BLC-2 behind a Hornady 162 gr. Amax bullet with a Winchester small rifle primer.

I also, shot some 130 grain Sierra Martch Kings at the rams and 400 meter turkeys with total success.  Of course, that is not a deer.

The 7BR is a great deer cartridge in a specialty handgun.  It is well suited for shots out to 250 yards (maybe 300 yds.).  I have seen my hunting buddy drop a number of mulies with a 7BR XP-100 from 200-275 yards.  This was back in the mid to late eighties and you now have better bullets available than we did back then.

Redhawk,

is that the barrel you got from me?  you better stop talking about how good it shoots, you'll make me want it back!  :-)  :)  :-D  :-D  :)  :)  :-D

glad its shooting for you...and good luck on them deer with it.  whats the recoil like with it?

Yes it is. :D  :-D  :D  :-D  You would be surprised at the accuracy.     The recoil is very light and a pleasure to shoot. I put 50 rounds through it and could not be happier with the performance. I toped it with a Bushnell 2X6X32 scope. All my buddies think the round looks cool. I showed my buddies the target yesterday and they want one now. See what you started Chris.  :D

redhawk,I have used 120's and 130's in several 7 mm cal handguns to take deer.Out to 200+ yards! I use a lot of 748 in these guns, but have tried others.Funny how I keep coming back to 748 and 120-130 single shot pistol bullets. They work great on ground hogs also.
