Well I got my 1895 CB last week. I took it to the range yesterday to try out. The load I shot was a general load I use with my Browning 1885. In the Browning, from a bench rest, the recoil is about like that of a .308 win. The load is pleasant, accurate, and burns clean without a filler. Both rifles weight about the same but that same load in the CB kicks the snot out of me for a bench rest! Now after all that diatribe, here is my question. The load looks very promising in the CB so I am going to install a recoil pad. Would it be better to get a Pachmayer that is prefit for the guide gun and grind it down. (I know the GG buttstock is not as trim as the CB) or would it be better to get a non prefit that is a closer match and fit it? Has anyone tried a prefit guide gun pad on the cowboy? I plan to order one tonight so it can be shipped tomorrow. Thanks to all for any information and help!
