Need info on 30-06 and 30-30 loads.
« on: July 30, 2004, 11:38:25 AM »
I'm looking for opinions on powder and dimensions (OAL), tips for loading up a Ruger M77 Tang Safety, and a Standard Win94AE. For both I already have a bunch of brass and rem9 1/2 primers. I looking to load both the 165gr Hornady Interlock and Nosler Part. in the 30-06, I also have some 180&220gr to load in the future. In the 30-30 I'm trying the 150gr Hornady Interlock. I was thinking of using the Lee factory crimp as well.

I was thinking of trying Varget for both. Or would I be better off using something like H4350 for the 06 and imr 3031 or w748 for the 30-30.

Thanks,

Chris

There is reall no way to be sure what will shoot best in your gun untill you try every thing, but I have always had good luck in the -06 with 4831 powder and 30-31 has been a standard in the .30-30 for years. Powders near the burning rate of these 2 powders may be alittle better or alittle worse in the accuracy department, but they will all work to one degree or another. I have so many different powders on the shelf from trying them in different rounds that when I get a new gun today I usuall don`t have to buy any more powders for the accuracy trials.

I've found that Varget works well in my 30/30, 30/06/, .270, and my son's 7mm-08 and 308. I wish there was a way to load it in my .480!

Thanks Everyone,

Ended up picking up some H4350 for the '06 and H335 for the 30-30. Now the fun begins!   :-)

I've had very good luck with H335 in 30-30 and my lee factory crimp has served me well.
