For that purpose, it's impossible to beat the Daisy lever actions. That's what I started with, and what my kids started with, and I still appreciate the pure fun of those guns. They're great because they are made for close range reactive targets, like soda cans, crackers, and aerial milk jugs shot in mid-air. You don't need finer accuracy for this purpose. The things are practically indesctructible, and only require a wiping after each use, and the occasional drop of oil. You load it before you go to the range, shoot it a few hundred times, and then go home without having to reload it during your session.
More adults should shoot them. They're great for training on aerial targets.
