an action/gun to rebarrel to 35 whelan

what make/action would be good to have rebarrelled to 35 whelan and who does the rebarrell for not much dinero??? i was thinking about a mauser 98 or something along those lines....

Stymie,
   Any action that has a .473 bolt face would be a good choice. The 98 Mauser actions are a very good design, but alot of the later war time actions where not made with good steel and are weak. The best Mauser action for the money on the market are the CZ action today. You should be able to pick up the whole rifle for $75 to $80 if you get one that has a good action but the rest of the gun is rough.

...P-17's heve got to be right in there with the most popular actions.  The difference is that people put a lot of thought into it before rebarelling a P-17.  An old CZ....VZ whatever...is not much of a decision......
