thanks   i had forgotten about ssk hard chrome. sure seems like prices are always goin up on everything :(
i was quoted a fair price at the gungarge. i've seen pics, and the sprayed on duracoat stainless finish does look good.

if ya had a barrel that was in good shape, as far as blueing goes, would ya have it coated just for coloration preferences?
i know....some may not want to spend the extra money......or prefer to buy a stainless barrel, but i have a blue factory 6tcu that i'm thinkin on having sprayed ss color by drdoolittle at thegungarage........that is when i get caught up on bills.

I've found this to be a good finish if your looking for something that will slick up an action and be very durable.  Jerry J

I have a S&W model 19 done with KG Gunkote.  Love it.
I have two contender barrels that will have is on them sometime this winter.  Have to bake in the oven.  Have to wait until the wife is gone for the day or weekend.

Good topic KYODE. I for one an always interested in a new of finish. I for one much prefer Stainless-Steel. Can't really explain this except that in Calling Coyotes I am out in some adverse conditions at times.

Recently I had a Super 14 .30-30 AI Contender Barrel Hard Chrome Plated by Metaloy with their Satin Finish. While it does not match the Stainless-Steel Frame perfectly, I feel it is quite close and makes for a decent looking setup.

The above photo is of a Stainless-Steel Frame with the Metaloy Plated .30-30 AI Barrel. I have not had this finish for very long yet so can not comment on it's durability. However I have learned a few things about hard chrome in talking to a couple local machinists. This stuff is HARD. In fact the one machinist told me that in certain applications where a super hard surface is required for a bearing to run on, they have the surface Hard Chrome Plated as it will hold up better than hardening the steel, and last longer. I am not sure how this relates to a gun finish, you'll have to draw your own conclusions.

This photo is of my Stainless-Steel Match Grade .22 LR Contender for comparison. In this photo both the Frame and Barrel are standard production Stainless-Steel T/C items. Granted you may or may not be able to tell from the photo(s) as to any contrast between the T/C Stainless and the Metaloy, but I think they look OK together.

Asto the Baked on Finishes. I am not totally sure how durable they would be. I am however quite sure they will provide a rust resistant finish. The beauty of the baked on finishes is you can litterally have any color (or combination of colors) you want, even camo finishes.

Thanks for starting a interesting, informative topic.

Hey Jerry, I went to the web link you provided, and this finish looks quite interesting. I didn't see a price listed for a Contender barrel. Do you happen to know what they charge for a 14" Contender Barrel?

Thanks for providing the link.

that brown color barrel is different  very interesting........any particular reason?

no offense jeff..... .......but i think i like the silver finish better.....or a camo job may be cool 8)

.......but, then again........it would provide good concealment from game......and that can be more important than whats visually appealing to me. :)

still....a nice lookin gun though

.....uhhhhh......ya ain't offended are ya :?

I'm not sure what you're goal is, but if you're looking for another choice in finishes, check out Top-Gun Enterprises at www.stealth-coat.com. I was looking for a non-glare matte black finish for hunting and law enforcement work and have been totally satisfied with their work. They are good folks to work with. I would consider it a functional rather than cosmetic finish, with primary emphasis on rust prevention, so if you're looking for ultimate beauty in a finish it may not be for you. My 2cents.

Kyle, I challenged Dave to have the barrel match the walnut wood from Ga. Jim. He got close, plus I just like to be different as well.

If you go to the Duracoat website you will find out how amazing the camo patterns are.  Just look at the gallery pics:

http://www.lauerweaponry.com/

Pricing is not too steep, and if your looking for a camo it cant be beat.  But they also can clear coat and black coat if thats your desire.
