Bolt handle issue
« on: August 11, 2004, 05:44:13 PM »
I'm helping an elderly gentleman with his Sheridan, series C, 20 caliber rifle. He can't pull the bolt back hard enough to cock it, the handle is too short to give him the leverage.
Does this handle screw off?
Any ideas on extending the handle?
I'm even thinking of something that would slip over the existing bolt handle.
Any help will be appreciated.

The early ones had bolt handles that could be taken apart. After 1970 the handle was welded to the bolt. Some guys modify the bolt by removing the handle and installing a pull knob on the rear. I think if you were to put an extension over the existing handle it may over-stress it and snap it off. It's certainly possible to have the handle replaced by a larger, easier to grip piece.

Where can a person go to get disassembly instructions? I've torn apart various rimfires and center fires but no air rifles.
Looks like the handle comes off but it didn't move when tapped.
